Mersyndol old man

This elderly man walks into the pharmacy requesting 2 packets of Mersyndol tablets.

So I went through protocol and began asking the questions.

Me: Have you taken this before? What other medications are you taking? etc

Him: (shakes head) Do I have to stand here and answer all your questions? Do you want me to go to another pharmacy?

Me: Yes because I want to make sure it's suitable for you and doesn't interact with your other medications.

Him: Well I've buy these all the time and Cincotta at Merrylands never ask me all these questions.

Me: Hmmm well they should because its to make sure this product is safe for you.

Him: So do I have to go through all that to buy it?

Me: Yes, it's protocol and that's why its kept behind the counter. It's basically to ensure its safety and well-being for you.

Him: Ok I'll get it from somewhere else where they don't ask me those questions. (starts walking).

Me: Sure. But every pharmacy should be asking you those questions. If they don't, I'd be a bit concerned if I were you - putting your health and life at risk. Good luck.

So after all that time questioning my questioning, he could've answered those questions and get the product and leave. And they don't appreciate someone's actually going through the trouble to make sure a product is safe for you? They rather get it from a takeaway fast food (or fast med) chain? Even Maccas ask you, what kind of drink would you like? Would you like to upgrade? would you like sauce with that? ......... Why can't us health care professionals ask questions? Sorry but my job is not to make the highest number of sales, but to accurately provide appropriate medical advice & assistance to ppl with medical problems. Get that right stubborn old man!
