When Dr gives wrong info to patient...

I'm not talking about major drug concerns here but more about the business side of things.... I get this all the time, sometimes I just want to tell the Dr, you know mind ur own business... just write ur script and let us do prices and dispensing.

"Are you are JP?" I reply "No I'm not." ... "But dr said you are a JP...." - geez.... i'm not but dr likes to refer his patients to us just because he isn't also. I think I would know if I'm a JP or not. They dr says ur Superman - do you think you can really fly?

Me: "The Vivaxim is not covered on Medicare and its about $130."
Patient: "What! Are you sure? Dr said its only about $80."
Me: "The dr's wrong. They usually take a guess at what the prices are."
Patient: "Can you make it $80? Coz the dr said it was gonna be about $80."
Me: "Unfortunately no discounts on vaccines. Its all set prices."
Patient: "But dr said it was $80. Why are you so expensive?"
Me: "The dr wasn't sure of the price in the first place and most likely quoted you the wrong price."
Patient: "But then where did the dr get the $80 from? They checked the system and told me that's the price. You guys are a rip off."
Me: "The best and most accurate way to get a price quote is to ask the pharmacy directly and not the doctor. They don't sell medications so they don't have a proper list. Feel free to shop around pharmacies in the area. I doubt you will be able to find it for the price that the dr quoted you."

Me: "Would you like the generic brand?"
Patient: "No no no, I want the good brand! I don't take rubbish cheaper brands!"
I see a record of them taking Noten.
Me being cheeky: "The dr has written Noten and I've noticed you have taken the Noten for a long time. Would you like me to change it to the original brand? Coz this is the generic brand."
Patient: "Yeh I take Noten all the time. Long time."
Me: "Yes that is also what the dr. But you said you only take original brands and don't want cheaper brands. Noten is a cheaper brand, would you like me to change it to an original as what you prefer? Its more expensive tho."  =P
*My point is - generic brands are cheaper but doesn't necessarily mean its crap or rubbish and pls don't blame it on the pharmacy that we sell rubbish brands coz many so called rubbish brands are written by ur own doctor!

Patient comes in with a paper written from dr: Panadol syrup 1-5years. I show them the section, there's color-free and elixir form and diff sizes which one would you like? Patient: "I dunno. Whatever the dr wrote." Me: "The dr didn't specify. It's realy up to you what flavour and what size you want." Patient: "Hmmm..... I need to ask my dr first just to make sure." - omg why bother?? Dear Dr, they sell diff sizes and flavour at the chemist. What flavour do you think is the best for my child?

Dr writes paper: "Pholcodine linctus." ... so I give Durotuss Dry Cough Syrup... Patient goes: "Will this break up my phlegm?" Me: "No, this is for a dry cough. It doesn't break up phlegm. If you got phlegm, that means you got dry cough and you would need something else." ..... "Are you sure? dr wrote this?" "Yes, it says the ingredient here PHOLCHODINE" ..... "I'll just take what the dr gives me." --- what the pt of asking me! This dr write pholcholdine regardeless of what cough the patient has....... and it doesn't even work.

A patient comes in and askes for some Cold & Flu tablets. She said she saw the dr and dr said 'just get some cold &flu tablets from the chemist, they are all the same." ...... I asked her questions and she says she has a sore throat and runny nose. No fever, no blocked nose, no cough .... "I'll give you something more suitable. Cold & Flu tablets are specific for ur symptoms." "Oh dr said they're all the same." "No they're not all the same, that's why there are different products on the market." ..... Just coz they can't prescribe any antibiotic for this patient: "yeh just get whatever cold & flu tabs you find from the chemist. any would do. they will fix it." Errr No... they're different...don't say its the same when its not just coz you don't know wht products are available!
